An associate dean and a professor from the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences will be part of a faculty panel on open-access publishing on Thursday, Oct. 25, from 2:30 to 4:00 pm in Atkins Library #125. The panel is part of the library's series of events on open access. In this panel, Sara Gagné, associate professor from the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences; Greg Weeks, associate dean for Academic Affairs in CLAS, and Sarah Laditka, associate professor in Public Health Sciences in the College of Health and Human Services, will give their perspectives on publishing their work as open access. They will talk about their decision to do so, the process involved, and their reactions afterward. The event will discuss the current landscape of open-access publishing. Open access to information – the free, immediate, online access to the results of scholarly research, and the right to use and re-use those results as needed – has the power to transform the way research and scientific inquiry are conducted, with direct and widespread implications for academia, medicine, science, industry, and for society as a whole, the library indicates.
