Nationally known speaker and anti-violence educator/activist Tony Porter will deliver the annual Women’s & Gender Studies Spring Lecture, Breaking Out of the “Man Box”: The Next Generation of Manhood, at UNC Charlotte on March 14. Porter’s work builds upon WGST’s research and activism on the issue of violence against women. His vision of the social construction of masculinity brings a much-needed perspective to these efforts and directs attention to the linkages between rigid notions of masculinity and violence.

A book signing and reception will follow the lecture.

The event, open to the University community and the public without charge,  is sponsored by The Chancellor’s Diversity Challenge Fund, the Center for Wellness Promotion, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, the Women’s & Gender Studies Program, the Multicultural Resource Center and the Gender Excellence Learning Community.
