On April 23, 2015 UNC Charlotte Air Force ROTC hosted its annual Parade and Awards Ceremony in front of the Self Made Man statue at UNC Charlotte. This ceremony is rich in tradition as an opportunity for individuals to see the precise marching of military members.
Students received scholarships valued at $63,000. The ceremony ended with the announcement of the next Cadet Wing Commander, David Seth Yelton. This position is the highest level position that a student can hold in AFROTC. Yelton will be responsible for all planning and execution of 33 training objectives for the 84 students in ROTC. Scholarship awards this year are:
- The Lieutenant Colonel Paul Mikeal Alumni Scholarship: Cadet Joseph Alexander, $300
- The Morrison Chestnut Grove Scholarship: Cadet Trent Harrell, $225
- The Margaret McDowell Jones Scholarship: Cadet David Seth Yelton, $225
- John Harris Campbell Scholarship: Cadet David Seth Yelton, $215
- Paul Wayne Anthony Scholarship: Cadets Elise McSwain and Johnathan Sanders, $750
- Ralph Jones Scholarship: Cadet Miles Riddle, $750
- The Chancellor’s Scholarship: Cadets Huan Pham, Paul Fortier, Kasey Clinard, Cameron Nigg, and David Seth Yelton, $1,000
- The Jason Monteith Memorial Fitness and Leadership Award: Cadet Sean Clark, $214
- The Capt B.W. Witherspoon Scholarship: Cadet Belton Wayne Chandler, $579
- The American Airman Award: Cadet Cianni Dudley, $500
- The AFROTC In-college Scholarship: Cadet Kasey Clinard, with all tuition and fees paid.
On May 8 in the UNC Charlotte Student Union, the Air Force ROTC commissioned 19 cadets as second lieutenants. They will be going into a range of career fields including: pilots, cyber operations, intelligence, nursing, contracting, logistics, air field operations, and nuclear weapons. They are:
