Allen G. Noble Book Prize Awarded to UNC Charlotte History Professor

Karen L. Cox, a UNC Charlotte history professor, received the 2013 Allen G. Noble Award for her book Destination Dixie: Tourism & Southern History. The Pioneer America Society offers the prize for the best edited book on material culture in North America. Destination Dixie includes thirteen essays that examine the way various historic sites throughout the South interpret the region’s history for the touring public. According to one reviewer, Destination Dixie incorporates “fascinating narratives that examine challenging intersections of history, heritage, and memory encountered along the road to historic tourism.”
